Headship as described in the bible, and the headship taught by JW's are two different things. The headship principle in the bible does not leave the woman powerless - far from it actually.
Exactly. When read in the entire context, the Bible teaches man husband and wife to work together.

Headship principle
by TheListener ini was talking with a good friend of mine the other day and the subject of headship came up.. i believe that the bible clearly shows that the man is the head of the family.. however, i don't believe the society portrays that headship in a correct fashion.. in my opinion the society really endorses a type of headship that doesn't really square with the teachings of the bible.. as my fade has progressed (remember we're talking several years here) my style of headship has changed very little.
i've never been a domineering head who bossed his wife around and made hard and fast rules for the family, but, before the fade started, i felt like i could if i needed to and sometimes even felt that i wasn't a very good head because i was too soft.. now, i feel like i'm a good head of the family and that pretty much the way i've been doing it does square with the bible's viewpoint.
now i can be the head i was but without the guilt.. i'm looking for what others here think the bible describes for the actions of the head of the family.

1 Corinthians 11:11-12 also states "In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman can from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God." Now there are a number of ways this could be interpreted, but I think Paul is trying to say that God intended for man and woman to help each other. That's my two cents.

The notion most of them had that you had to comment at least once during the WT study in order to look like a good dub. So superficial.

Why One "Inspired" Bible...but endless "literature" about it?
by upside/down in"christians" are so proud of their one bible... the most widely distributed...blah blah blah...and thus it must be "god's" word.... yet the wts (in particular) is constantly producing new "literature"...why?.
can't they comment on what they "know" about a certain scripture and leave it at that...i mean how much real "new light" is there?.
they just rehash the same old crap over and over.... cheeezus...print one book...and then just "revise" it as needed... oh wait...i thought they had one book...the bible.... why do the interpretations need interpretation...???.

I don't think God or other Christians deserve to be ripped because of the irresponsible actions of one organization, an organization that we know is neither God's channel of communication or truly Christian.

You know what DEFD, I bet you are here because you are starting to have some doubts. Maybe you should follow through with those doubts and do something about them. The members here may seem hostile toward you now, but if you do the right thing, I'm sure everyone here will be more than willing to help you transition out of the organization.
The ball is in your court. Make the right choice. The rest of us did. -

Big Dog just hit the nail on the head. In my opinion, a good portion of their doctrine is their just to give JWs their identity and differentiate them from "false religion."
I'm with the rest of you. I can see making sure you don't go overboard with birthdays, but you have to at least acknowledge them, if for no other reason than to know how old everyone is. -

Dungeons and Dragons game & JW urban legends
by rebel8 indoes anyone remember this game from (i think) the early '80s?
it's a role playing game of some sort that included some violent imagery or something.. i remember jws (and the media, come to think of it) making a big, big deal of it.
something like it was demonized or made kids murder people.

Also candidlynuts, I'm not sure what you mean by Pokemon higher levels. I've actually played the Pokemon RPG on the Game Boy, and I fail to see how it is a D&D knockoff.

LT - I'm not sure if gods are a recent edition. I'm fairly new at D&D myself. I just incorrectly assumed that worshipping other gods would be a big deal to JWs.
Sonnyboy - Essentially, you act out a character. You have to fill out a character sheet with various stats. Using these stats, you have to figure our your character's personality and role in the party.
The DM creates an interactive world with adventures based on your party's abilities.
To play you need: Dice of various sides, pencils, paper, figures, and a game board/map with squares/hexes. The figures and the game board are necessary for combat purposes.
Hope that helps. -

I think one of the main reasons JWs and other religions may be so adamantly against it is because usually, your character can pick from one of many "gods" to worship.
If played properly however, D&D encourages critical thinking, problem solving, math skills, and teamwork.
